UUMailScan V1.2 ©1994 TKA Systems
Written by Paul Leclair
Did you ever want to have CNet send your users (including yourself) an
On-Line Message saying that new Internet E-Mail has arrived? Well, this
program will do just that!
It's a rather simpled thing really. What it does is checks the inbound
mail directory (assigned by default as UUMAIL:) and checks to see if
there are any mail items to be imported to CNet. If there are, then
it will run the IUUMAIL program and scan all ports to see if a matching
user is online. If so, it will send them an OLM saying they just got
new Internet E-Mail. Nice huh? :-)
The program was primarily created for sysops who have a live Internet/
SLIP connection, but it can work for those who are using UUCP.
FILES:
This archive should contain all of these files. If any of them are
missing, contact me at one of the addresses listed at the bottom of
this file.
UUMailScan (main program)
UUMailScan.conf (configuration file)
OLM (a nice DOS OLM program written by someone else)
RPSTART (Rexx Plus starter)
RPHI (Rexx Plus "halt" program)
rexxplslib.library (Rexx Plus library)
UUMailScan.README (this file)
INSTALLATION:
o unpack this archive in a temp directory
o move UUMailScan to a decent place (I use AmiTCP:rexx/)
o move UUMailScan.conf to AmiTCP:db/
(UUCP users may have to create a directory assign for AmiTCP: and then
make a subdirectory called "db" in order for this to work)
o move OLM into your command path (I use C:)
o move RPSTART and RPHI into your command path (I use C:)
(RPStart starts Rexx Plus environment, RPHI is the "halt" program
that works just like ARexx's "HI" command)
o move rexxplslib.library into your LIBS: directory
o If you don't have Rexx Plus running already on your system, you will
need to start it up. This can be done two ways. Typing RPSTART at
any CLI prompt, or, which I prefer - editing S:user-startup and putting
an entry that looks like this: "RPSTART" before it runs my CNet stuff.
o edit the AmiTCP:db/UUMailScan.conf file. Instructions are within
the configuration file itself.
o Then AFTER Cnet is loaded, run UUMailScan. It will run on a process
as "UUMailScan" at whatever priority you choose (according to the
configuration entry).
That's it!
NOTES:
o UUMailScan doesn't need anything more than a 4k stack.
o UUMailScan writes a sysdata:log/iuumail report file showing
who got mail.
o The program will accept CTRL-C's on a process display should you wish to
kill it from running.
o If the configuration file is missing, the program will not load
and give you an error/reason.
o If your CNet BBS Port 0 (IMPORTANT) is not loaded, the program will
not run. I wasn't able to find a way around this. UUMailScan relys
on CNet to get the user information. If port 0 is not active, then
it can't address the CNet ARexx port - thus failing.
o I wish I could remember where I got the DOS OLM program to give proper
credit to the author. :-( It was invaluable to the operation of this
project.
PROBLEMS:
o Other than the BBS Port 0 problem, I haven't encountered any. This
program has been running on my BBS for 3 months now with no problems.
OTHER STUFF:
This program is considered E-Mail-Ware (good one eh?). If you like this
program and you plan on using it, please send me email at one of the
